On this past St. Patrick’s day, the Canucks honoured the late Pat Quinn. Donning Quinn warm-up jerseys, and bringing in powerhouses of the Canucks franchise (Naslund, Linden, Bure, McLean, & more), the franchise put on a wonderful tribute & the team got another two points to keep them in playoff contention.
My mother scored us four tickets to the Van-Philly game, so we got to soak it all in. We were in the Avaya Champions club for the first time, and the food was almost as exciting as getting to watch the game live–depending on who you ask, of course.
Mmm, crab. They had made small incisions down the crab legs for easy access to the meat inside!
The first period was pretty uneventful. No goals, no penalties. Few legitimate scoring chances from either end.
Things picked up in the second, though. The Flyers opened with the first goal, but the Canucks quickly bounced back. Edler found the back of the net, and later in the game Burrows notched two in the span of 17 seconds. (Not many pictures because I was busy watching the game!)
Irish orca version of “OHOHOHOOHOHOHOOHO LOOK AT THE SCORE!”
St. Patrick’s Day / Irish-themed desserts. Lots of green, whiskey, scotch, and mint.
With it still 3-1 winding down the third period, the Flyers pulled their goalie. It took a while, but Vrbata finally notched the empty netter.
I like watching Canucks games on TV, but getting the chance to watch them play (and win) live is like nothing else. What a rush!
Oh, and the free food… that was really nice, too. (Service, as always in Rogers Arena, was impeccable.)
Well, it’s unlikely that I’m going to get to do anything like that again anytime soon. I’m so grateful we got the chance to attend the game. Go Canucks go!!!
